Happy Ever After Apron Dress

I have finally decided to do another blog post. I just had to share this cute dress I just finished. It is going to be a birthday gift for my friend's daughter next weekend for her 5th birthday. I used 4 prints from the new Happy Ever After line from Riley Blake. I used Main for the skirt, Dresses for the bodice, Gingham for the straps and apron ruffle, and Carriage for the apron detail. The fabrics can be found here. The pattern I used is the Charlotte Apron Dress from The Cottage Mama. It comes in sizes 6 months-8. The apron is the perfect backdrop for applique. The cute Sleeping Beauty applique is from Lynnie Pinnie. She has many more princesses in this same style and go really well with this fabric line.

Too Cute Ruched Shorts

Last week I tested a new sewing pattern from Cole's Corner and Creations. They are girls shorts that cinch up on the sides which give them a cute and feminine detail. The pattern includes sizes 2-8. I made the size 5 for my daughter and the fit was perfect! I used Dress Up Days fabric from Riley Blake in Blue Floral. I thought this fabric has patriotic colors but at the same time not too Fourth of July-ish. I appliqued a kite from Planet Applique and sewed down the red rick rack for the kite tail.

Usually I cannot get her to smile or pose for pictures. But, as you can see, she loves her new outfit. In fact, she wanted to wear it again the next day. It was too dirty from her wiping chocolate milkshake all over the shirt so of course I didn't let her.

Personalized Baby Bibs

A few days ago I was contacted by a friend who is having a joint 1st birthday party for her son and 4 other babies. She wanted to get all the birthday boys (and girl) a special bib personalized with their name and birthday. She picked out the fabrics that she wanted and I made the bibs. I love how they came out. They are all lined with warm and natural cotton batting for absorbancy and are backed in super soft bubble dot minky.

My favorite is the Groovy Guitar bib. I just love the colors in this fabric. The teal minky on the back is a perfect match too!

I also love the bib made with Windy Day fabric from Michael Miller.

Apple of My Eye Dress

I used 5 fabrics from the Apple of My Eye collection from Riley Blake to make my daughter this dress.

I used the Peasant Dress Pattern by Tie Dye Diva. It has different options on how to gather the neckline and sleeves. I choose to shir.

I made a size 6 for my daughter who is 5 but not so skinny. I had her try it on and the neckline is huge! I did steam the elastic thread to shrink it but hopefully it will shrink a little more if I put it in the drier. It is suppose to be for her to wear for her preschool graduation. If it doesn't shrink it is going to her older sister who is 7. I am sure it is a problem with my shirring rather than the pattern. I have made this before for my cousin and it fits her perfect.

Modkid Natalie and Nate Pattern

I love Modkid patterns. They are easy to follow and always come out looking super cute. I was super excited when I found out that there would be a baby pattern and a boy one at that! Cute boy patterns are hard to come by. The Modkid Natalie and Nate does not disappoint.

I made the boy version in size 6-9 months for my son. I used Children at Play fabrics from Michael Miller in Rocket Launch Club and Rockets. I embroidered his name on the front after sewing the two front pieces together. The only thing I would do different next time is to not pull the tabs in so much because it is a little hard to get on him. But, overall I am very pleased with the results and so is Jack!

First Blog Post

This is my first blog post ever. I am new to blogging so please bear with me as I figure things out. I thought I would start off by telling you a little about myself. My name is Jennifer and I am the owner and sole worker behind The Bailey Girls. I have two shops on etsy. One where I sell different things that I make and one where I sell fabric and patterns. Some of you may also know me from Sew Forum or Everything Sewing.

I have two girls (ages 5 and 7) and a son who is 6 months old. I named my business The Bailey Girls because my girls inspire everything I do. At the time I started in 2007 my 5 year old was a baby and my son wasn't even a glimmer in my eye. So I suppose I should call it "The Bailey Girls...and a boy" now. Because I now have a baby again I have started to sew baby things again. I love sewing for babies because they can't tell you that they don't like what you make them or refuse to wear it.

On this blog I plan to share with you my sewing projects, fabric finds, tutorials, and just everyday happenings. It may be slow going at first as I figure out what I am doing but hopefully I will pick it up quickly.
